Rustic Fall Vignette Inspiration

Vignette decorating with rustic fall elements is one of my favorite ways to decorate. Let me take you on a step-by-step tour of how I styled my landing table today.

Create Layers and Depth

I always like to think about the depth of any vignette or area I style. For the top of my family’s heirloom table I hung a festive garland from Erica Dixon Design along the rod which would be the back of my entire vignette. It also acts as an element that will frame the entire vignette.

I love Erica’s design because her banner here is made from magnetic metal pieces and the small signs easily adhere to the magnets too! Check out my Instagram Highlight Fall Collab #1 for a full description of how her creative and beautiful products can be used.

Large Pieces to Ground the Vignette

The first two main pieces I placed were a tired tray and then a pedestal stand. One of my goals for this area is to move the viewers eye from the left to the right and from the top to the bottom. Choosing elements of various heights helps accomplish this and adds immediate variety to the table.

Add Medium Elements

Next up, I added in a few more pieces that I would consider medium sized. They continued to add movement and visual interest to the vignette. Typically at this point I start to adjust, edit, take out, or add things in.

Small Pieces and Various Textures

Now for probably the most creative part of the process, the small elements. Styling a tiered tray can be tricky, but it just takes some practice though. The main thing you want to think about is making sure the eye moves evenly down the tray. I love using various textures, and shapes with the items I select too.

The small rectangular sign on the middle tier of the tray is another creative sign from Erica Dixon Design. The frame is backed with a magnetic piece of metal and the sign magnetizes to the top of it, nestling it nicely into the frame. I love Erica’s design because her signs are so easy to store and switch out with seasons.

Add Florals for Visual Movement

The last step is to fill in any of the holes in the vignette with faux or live florals. I am just using what I have on hand and am bending each pick to create more movement visually with specific shapes, and colors.

And that’s it! Vignette decorating takes a little practice but styling a spot like this can have a huge impact on a room.
