A Boho Chic 13th Birthday Party

A Boho Chic theme was perfect for our daughter’s 13th birthday party. It was affordable, dainty, elegant yet casual, and very doable with the restrictions of COVID to consider. Four of her friends joined us for a short celebration together. It was a beautiful, yet small, celebration for our delightful daughter.

All the details for this party were so fun to pull together with my daughter’s help. She designed the theme, craft, and color palette. It was a celebration of her style and personality on such a special birthday! Here are all the big and small details.

Boho Chic Details

April from April’s Sugaree Cookies provided beautifully decorated cookies for this small event. She made us 1 dozen cookies which included 6 watercolor feathers, and 6 geometric macrame designs. We loved how they turned out and just as importantly they were delicious!

Each guest arrived to a beautiful cookie from April and a handmade bracelet with an initial charm, made by my daughter.

If you’ve been hanging out with me for a while you know I love little details. Cutlery Couture is a beautiful company that offers various styles of silverware pouches. The dainty neutral jute flower pouches were perfect for this party. They fit the theme and everyone’s silverware was set apart individually which helped us all stay COVID careful.

The feature decor for the party was dainty, simple, yet visually striking. A Fete Beckons made the gorgeous macrame wall garland. Not only is it exquisitely made it was the perfect final touch to the party decor. The garland, along with the rattan letter H, will transition beautifully to my daughter’s room as decor..

Cake and Color Palette

My daughter picked the color palette of moody blues, purples, and sage greens to accent the natural elements and fibers of the party decor. We found the sweet little macrame cake topper here which was the perfect touch on her cake. She designed it with the paper flowers cascading down the side as well. It was executed and made by a dear friend of ours who makes and creates cakes as a hobby. Our friend had extra batter and made the birthday girl her own little individual cake too. It was perfect for blowing out the candles. Leaving the larger cake germ-free for our guests (another COVID trick).

Party Activity

One of the challenges for this party was to find a simple, yet engaging, activity for a few 12 and 13 year old girls to enjoy. Well with a few skeins of yarn and some small dowels everyone made their own simple macrame wall hanging. We found a short tutorial online and the girls tried their hand at a few knots and color combos to make one for their room’s at home. The craft for 4 girls cost about $40.

For this party craft you’ll need: 1 package of 12 in. dowels, and several skeins of yarn in various colors and thicknesses for your guests to use. Also make sure to have some scissors, and a few places for the kiddos to hang their macrames as they make them.

Shop the Boho Chic Party Theme

This party theme was really really inexpensive. Excluding the cake it cost under $200.00. That total covers the craft (for five), simple snacks, and macrame decor elements. Nearly all the party decor will also double as wall hangings in my daughter’s room. Shop the image below for details about what we used.

A Birthday to Remember

We don’t typically have big parties for our kid’s birthdays. More often, we are found creating memories as a family on an outing or day trip. But this year, with our son turning 16 and now our daughter becoming a teenager it seemed fitting to go a little bigger in decor and theme for their birthdays.

You can see a short pre-party walk-thru with the entire set-up pulled together here.

The restrictions of COVID meant we had to keep the guest list very small. We couldn’t really go anywhere so having a small party at home allowed for us to focus our efforts on the details, special friendships, and memories to be made. It was a wonderful way for us to help usher in the teen years for our beautiful young lady!

With hope for you and your intentional home,
