Pine Daisy House- the Story of Our Modern Cabin

I’m often asked about the name of our cabin. So as we approach the 2nd anniversary of Pine Daisy House let me share the story.

Our First Home

A fun fact about our home, it’s the first one we’ve ever owned. After over ten years of marriage, two kids, multiple college degrees, and half a dozen moves we continue to be beyond grateful for this modern cabin of ours.

The day we were officially under contract in March 2015.

A Timber Home

Pine Daisy House is technically a Modern Timber Home. We enjoy timber accents throughout our two story 3,100 square foot cabin. The roofline of Pine Daisy House is a shed style. There is also a nudge toward mid-century modern design in the open floor plan.

The house sits on just under an acre of alpine forest in Colorado. The exact elevation of Pine Daisy House is 7,244 ft. We live in a forest community in a town north of Colorado Springs.

The Thing About Daisies

With the vision to start blogging about our cabin lifestyle, I wanted the name to embody the beauty of our forest

So, after an afternoon of brainstorming I landed on using the two words pine and house. But I wanted one more word to encompass the natural beauty of our property. So I started to think about all the things I found moving about the natural landscape we are surrounded by.

The small aspen grove at the front of our property. The smell of sunny pine trees or the tall grasses that sway in the breeze at the peak of summer. Then I remembered the dozen weeks of wildflower season on our property. I thought of, Lupine, Harebell, Butter n’ Eggs, Indian Paintbrush, Purple Aster… nothing had the right ring to it.

Until…I came to the Alpine Daisy (Daisies also happened to be my wedding flower) We have white and purple Alpine Daisies that speckle our property with their bright, cheery, simple beauty all summer. Also my birthday is in April, and guess what is the official flower of April? Yep, Daisies. So it just seemed fitting. Pine Daisy House was born.

The Journey

Right from the start I wanted Pine Daisy House to be a corner of the internet that shares ways to live more efficiently and intentionally. Sometimes that’s in the way a home is organized, the food cooked in the kitchen, the presents under a Christmas tree, and the products purchased throughout the year. Add to these ideas my transparent passion for living more minimally and close to nature all captured with a beautiful photo.

I’ve worked hard to remain grounded in these initial visions and stay relatable to you no matter your style of home. Now as I turn the corner on the last two months in Pine Daisy House’s 2nd year, I’m still loving the journey. Every picture I take, topic I discuss, or product I share is thoughtfully considered and passed along with care. I love going on this ride with you and I can’t wait to see what God has in store for us, together.

With hope for you and your intentional home,
