Modern Cabin Deck Renovation Part 3: The Build

All deck and stair frames are complete! With a few looks by an inspector we are ready for the decking to be laid.

Our contractor, Aaron, meticulously measured and cut the stairframe himself to ensure everything was level and even.

To ensure water resistance and moisture protection on the deck joists and under structure Aaron used Trex Butyl Tape. It repels water from rotting or causing decay in the framing, joists, or ledger boards of the deck. The tape seals deck fasteners and prevents moisture penetration extending the life of the overall deck frame to match the life of the composite decking.

The Lower Deck Renovation Reimagined

With some ingenuity and out-of-the box-thinking, Aaron suggested we consider a cement pad where we had originally planned on building the lower deck. In fact, by changing the lower deck plan to a cement pad we actually saved money on this renovation!

I can’t wait to have maintenance-free living space in this area as it will sit adjacent to a small but mighty shade and veggie garden.

Much Needed Remodeled Under Deck Storage

Another small but mighty area we re-imagined was our under-the-deck shed. Originally, this shed footprint was about half the space you see above. Once demo was complete we asked Aaron if we could make modifications to the plan and enclose the entire under deck space. He agreed to the idea and what we have now is a more than doubled under the deck storage shed.

It’s Nearly Finished

The finish line for the deck renovation is right around the corner! We can’t wait to sit and watch the stars on the newly finished beautiful deck.

For another fun peek at our renovation be sure to check out this video I made last week as well as the entire day-by- day journey on Instagram.

Stay tuned. It’s nearly time for the full deck reveal with outdoor living styling!

With hope for you and your intentional home,
