A Hayride Inspired Fall Table

It’s no secret that investing in quality dinnerware, table linens, and flatware can be a big expense. But after sixteen years of marriage I’m hear to tell ya it’s worth it! Our fall table is elegant and is a celebration of a story that stands the test of time.

As I started styling our fall table, I found myself being grateful for the intentional purchases we’ve made throughout the years. Some of my items are no longer on the shelves but they are still beautiful and stand the test of time.

Dinnerware

For our 10th year anniversary we invested in a beautiful set of dish-ware from Crate and Barrel. We bought the white Maren Dinnerware Collection. I love the handmade rustic feel of the set and our food looks beautiful on the plates. We have needed to replace a few plates over the years but that’s the beauty of this set! You can replace a plate here and there as you need to.

To keep my dishes clean from cutlery marks I use Bar Keepers Friend. I make a wet paste on each plate and gently scrub them until they look brand new.

Silverware

Our flatware set is a brushed stainless steel. It has a clean, seamless, rustic style. We invested in 12 pieces during the first year of our marriage along with the serving utensils. To this day we use them regularly and they have barely aged. Here is a set very similar to what we have.

Fall Table Linens

I love the look of a woodgrain table. So I have found that my favorite way to style our cabin dining room table is with a table runner and placemats only. Gathering around a table is so timeless and it warms my heart to think of all the memories we’ve made. I don’t mind a few scratches or scuff marks, it just adds to the charm.

Again, in the first year of our marriage we bought a plaid set of cloth napkins with all the classic fall oranges, reds, and greens. It’s still timeless and I’m grateful to have splurged when we did.

Our placemats are a round jute/water hyacinth that grounds our table settings. I’ve collected what we have over the past couple of years. I love the geometric play between circles and rectangles on our dining table.

Fall Table Decor

If you read this post a few weeks ago you know fall decor inspiration at our cabin came straight from nature this year. I love the idea of sitting in the middle of a sun-bleached field watching the tall grasses blow in the breeze with our mountains in the background. An autumn hayride, is the perfect set of imagery to encapsulate my fall decor scheme.

So I’ve added a few brand new elements of plaid, table ornaments, fall florals, and even some pretty porcelain place cards.

Timeless vs Trendy

Embracing the timeless and trendy can be such a hard balance. Especially if you love home decor as much as I do. But cultivating intentional living in a modern cabin has helped me stay grounded with the idea of timeless decor.

Every time I buy home decor or want to get the latest and greatest style I think, “Will I use this in our cabin next year and the year after?” The next thing I think about, especially if the item is seasonal, “How will I store it?” If it’s small and can easily get packed away with my seasonal decor box no biggie. Other items, like signs, can be a little more challenging with our limited cabin storage. So I weigh my seasonal decor purchases very carefully.

My solution is I try to buy items that will stand the test of time and I intermingle a few small, on trend, pieces to keep the decor relevant and modern.

The result has found us living with things we love and being glad we invested in quality over quantity all those years ago.

With hope for you and your intentional home,
