2018 Favorite Things ~Summer Edition
Summer at PINEdaisyHOUSE really begins the first week of June. We hit the project train hard as soon as school is out. By the time summer technically rolls around things are in full swing.
This year has been no different. With a few major projects completed and others tabled for fall the stare down to school starting has almost begun. Before things get too out of hand I want to share some of my current favorite things. Without further ado…
Adobe Lightroom– An on-the-go photographer’s friend.
I am still pretty new to Lightroom but let me tell ya, I love it! Being a hobby photographer for several years, and dabbling in pro photography I’ve always struggled to spend on a photo editing software. Currently I’m using Adobe Lightroom on my iPhone; I haven’t begun to pay for the monthly subscription. It is very responsive with several baseline-editing tools.
About half my photos are taken with my iPhone and the other with my Canon 60D. Lightroom edits everything. I maintain a consistent look (or filter) across all my photos. Adobe has done a awesome job making this software mobile and desktop friendly. Even if you are just semi-serious about good looking photos check this out.
The Great British Baking Show– Perfect for your summer Netflix binge time.
If you want a loud, flashy, cooking competition keep on walking. A show with witty British humor, beautiful UK scenery and learning the art and science of baking? You’re in the right place. Clear your schedule and snuggle up on the couch. Netflix has a few seasons you can stream. After hustling the kids here and there all day, I’m wiped. The relaxing music, funny banter, and pace of this show is just what I need. And now you’re next rainy weekend is planned, you’re welcome!
Enter the Instant Pot– Every busy summer night’s best friend.
I admittedly was pretty late to the party here. A precious friend’s mom had an Instant Pot, never used, and sold it to me at a great price. I can’t believe I did without it for so long! Be ready, this guy requires some reading once you pull it out of the box. So settle in with the owner’s manual. Our Colorado elevation and no AC status require me to get creative in the kitchen on hot summer nights. When I want a hearty meal but don’t want to heat our kitchen to high heaven, the Instant Pot saves the day. There are a ba-gillion ideas on Pinterest and I’m beginning to curate some of the recipes we use on my board as well. This new(ish) kitchen gadget is great for busy families.
Postman Earrings from Magnolia are summer style perfected.
I love easy, slightly rustic, hand-made jewelry. One of the many reasons I planned a trip to Magnolia a few months ago was because I wanted to see their products in person. I can assure you, all their pieces, not just the jewelry, are just as beautiful as they look online. I bought these leather earrings as one of my souvenirs from the trip and I love them.
I’m a pretty big fan of the “Oh this old thing?!” look so give me something simple, pretty and feminine any day. They are just long and dangly enough to catch the eye but casual enough to wear with a utility shirt. In the summer I wear cut off shorts and a gray t-shirt most days so talk about a cross over piece of jewelry! If you are contemplating a leather jewelry purchase or just some new danglies in general put Magnolia on your list as a place to check out.
The Loopy Case might just be my favorite phone case…ever.
It was time for me to get a new smart phone a few months ago. I opted for a bigger screen this time around and thus needed a new case. It needed to be something pocketable, help me reach all corners of the screen with one hand, not bulky, and help minimize the drop. After hearing about Loopy Cases I fell in love. Started by three brothers a few years ago this case meets all the requirements. I love the security this it gives me, no dropping here!
The benefits of this puppy are pretty extensive. If you need a new case, or need a refresh hop over, you too might love them.
These are just a few things I’ve been enjoying this summer. Some of these are free, some are an Intentional Living Cultivators friend and others are just plain fun. I know I get what I pay for and having a personally recommended product sometimes makes all the difference.
