Must-Haves for Summer at the Cabin

The summer season is upon us friends! Summer at our cabin is a wonderful time of year thanks to long days, the expanded living space of our deck, and all the beautiful wildlife.

Since I have the summer off, due to teaching, a few weeks are always dedicated to projects and cabin maintenance. Living in our modern cabin full-time is truly a joy for my family and caring for this home is a labor of love.

One of our favorite things to do after the projects are complete is sit back and relax around the firepit, or on the deck in the evening. As we settle into summer and all the relaxation it brings, here are some of our favorite items (yep Mr. PDH helped with this post) so we can embrace summer at the cabin!

1. A Wool Blend Blanket

This blanket is perfect for evenings on the deck as we watch the stars come out. It’s beautiful and makes a statement as a throw blanket next to the couch inside as well. We love that it can move effortlessly to the deck or firepit too.

2. Yeti Cup

Whether we’re snuggled up in a tent, watching the stars on the deck, or sitting around our firepit with s’mores, an outdoor mug is a must have for Mr. PDH. This puppy is big enough for morning oatmeal at the campsite, an afternoon cup of coffee or an evening whiskey. So go snag your favorite color.

3. Patagonia Hat

In the summer my wardrobe is casual. A staple for me is this hat. It’s a trucker style cap but is still low-profile enough to keep my noggin from looking weird. I throw it on when I’m headed to the farmer’s market, on a morning hike with the pup, or if I’m out taking care of the garden. It’s practical and breathable but is still cute enough to head to the local brewery after a long day outside.

4. Chacos

I love when I begin to get the coveted Chaco foot tan every summer. I have only owned three pairs of Chacos in the nearly twenty year period that I’ve known about this brand. They are durable and worth every penny. I’ve worn these sandals in the water, on a mountain bike, up a Colorado 14er, on the mass transit system of Denver, in the classroom, next to my garden bed, or while photographing a casual outdoor wedding. These are a must-have for summer cabin life.

5. A Fleece

I asked Mr. PDH to give some ideas for summer cabin life must-haves and without taking a breath he said a great fleece. If you are living the cabin life then you are outside ALOT. It’s not an exaggeration to say we are outside for hours a day throughout the summer. That means rain or shine we’re living outdoors. A great mid-weight fleece should be part of what you can reach for in the closet. No matter what mother nature throws at me, it’s never far away. A quality, long lasting, fleece is worth the investment. I’ve had mine for almost ten years and I love the adventures it’s taken me on.

Summer life at Pine Daisy House is full! We cram a lot of cabin projects into the ten-ish weeks I’m away from the classroom. I like to think that we cram a lot of quality down time in too. These five items have added comfort and luxury to enjoying summer at the cabin.

Have a great summer! I hope it’s full of memories, the outdoors, a few evenings watching the stars come out, and s’more oozing down your finger tips. Embracing the summer weeks with intention is what I plan to be all about because before I know it I’ll be thinking about lesson plans again.

With hope for you and your intentional home,
