Christmas Storage Solutions for Small Spaces

When I began decking the halls in November our holiday decor storage was a mess! It was unorganized and haphazardly put away last year. With each bin and box in disarray I promised myself that this year I’d straighten things out.

Place your Decor in Like Piles

First things first, if this is the year to organize the holiday decor it’s probably best to place everything out in a large area. Put everything in common piles.

I made several piles and gathered like items in the same place. Signs, garland, Christmas village, linens, dishes, tabletop trees…all of it was laid out in an area toclusters similar items together.

Keep the Decorating Process in Mind

Gather your decor from the various piles and start filling containers and storage bins. I keep my decorating process in mind during this step so everything is efficient. Each year I enjoy switching things up and I have a very deliberate order in which I decorate. So the way I fill my bins reflects my process. I anticipate this will be really helpful next year when I get out my storage bins!

I undecorated my tree in a backwards order so that next year decorating from the bin is much easier!

Small Storage Space, Big Solutions

This year, determined to maximize storage and use what I have, I decided to create layers of decor within my storage bins. So with the help of my son we cut long pieces of cardboard that acted liked shelves within the containers.

I filled each bin and placed like items together. Using a long piece of cardboard I made layers of decor within each bin. The cardboard acted like a barrier separating each layer of decor.

If I could I would

Reusing and repurposing boxes has it’s benefits don’t get me wrong. But all this storing got me thinking. If I were going to buy all new and start fresh you better believe I would have some ideas.

For starters, I would buy clear containers, for the obvious reason. Everything is so much easier to see when it’s stored! I’d also invest in clever containers for ornaments and lights.

I did a little research and rounded up the best budget friendly storage items this year.

There are so many great ways to store holiday decor and I hope my process has helped you envision another way of doing this yearly chore.

With hope for you and your intentional home,
