A Valentine’s Day Breakfast

I love to build special memories on small holidays. Now, don’t misunderstand I try not to succumb to the pressures of Pinterest. I love a good inspirational picture just as much as the next girl. But, I gotta keep it realistic. So, I try to create small opportunities to set time aside to celebrate my family and kids when I can. Valentine’s Day is a perfect opportunity!

I like to choose my game plan wisely. I DO NOT want to bight off more than I can chew and set myself up for failure this year and potentially for years to come (cuz let’s be honest if you go all out every single time, that one time you don’t…aye yi yi). So my motto is, “under promise and over deliver”, ha.

A Simple Valentine’s Day

When it comes to Valentine’s Day I like to do a little something so our PDH kids know what a blessing they are to our family. As they get older and school parties become LESS of a “thing” and personal notes or bouquets of flowers delivered (or not delivered) to their locker are more of a “thing” I want to start their day off with a good ‘ol fashioned breakfast that reminds them of the love they already have in our home.

Valentine’s Day is super duper commercialized. Keeping this little breakfast homemade and handmade (with a few purchased re-usable items) reminds the kids of what’s most important. So, if I had a little extra MONE-AYE, I’d take myself to Etsy and get my small- shop shopping on. Here, I’ve whipped up a little Valentine’s Day Breakfast inspiration board for ya that mirrors what my table and home decor look like.

The Plan

I’m a busy working mom so when a holiday falls on a weekday I try to give myself all the help I can.

  • Make the pancakes the night before and warm up in the microwave or toaster oven the morning of.
  • Set the table before you call it a night on the 13th.
  • Prep the bacon or sausage on a large cookie sheet the night before. As soon as you wake up in the morning, pop’em in the oven.
  • Prep your special Valentine for your kiddo the night before.
  • Assemble the yogurt parfaits the morning of, top with the fruit.
  • Make the beverages and set out the fruit in the morning

You don’t need to have a party with company coming over to set a pretty table, or make a special meal. Your best gifts in life walk into the kitchen with tired eyes every morning. Celebrate THEM, show some good old fashioned love and build memories at the same time with a mini celebration like this. Creating special moments when you can is what makes mommin’ so fun! Now all that’s left is for you to enjoy some lovely time with your sweet ones (see what I did there?).

With hope for you and your intentional home,
