A Modern Cabin Christmas: Natural and Rustic

Somehow the holiday season has nearly come to a close. The Christmas season in our modern cabin timber home is my favorite. As I write this, the final presents are wrapped, the sugar cookies frosted, decorations are out, and music is quietly playing in the background.

Before we move into the New Year, I’d love to give a quick tour of our cabin. As with each year, I’ve never loved our tree more and our modern cabin looks beautiful decked out in classic red and green.

Our Cabin Christmas Tree

We have one live Noble Fir Christmas tree proudly standing in the front room of our cabin. We’ve gathered the ornaments through the years and love creating a family memory tree. Some were found on our travels and some made in classrooms when our kids were little.

A yarn and plaid garland wrap around the tree to tie the decorations on the main floor all together. A scroll is draped like a ribbon down the front of the tree. On it, I scribbled the lyrics to Oh Holy Night, my favorite carol.

The Mantle and Garland

Back in November I created a mixed green garland to hang down our stair rail and I duplicated it for the mantle. Nestled amongst the branches are lanterns and battery operated faux pillar candles. The garland drapes off the right side of the mantle. Along the left, our four stockings hang.

Above the mantle is a simple chalkboard with a design inspired by another carol in a style seen on Pinterest years ago.

The Hot Cocoa Bar

The newest addition to our holiday decor is a festive coffee/hot cocoa bar. I tried my hand at a tiered tray for the first time this year too. Nestled on the trays are Christmas character mugs that I enjoyed collecting this past fall.

Draped over the window is our Christmas stocking garland counting down the days til the 25th! This item is always a treasured decoration in our home.

The Dining Room Table

If you’ve been around for a bit you know I love a festive tablescape. I adore dreaming up, designing, and gathering the elements to create a beautiful seasonal table (as I write this I’m already scheming my winter table design).

This year’s theme was not too far off from last years winter design. I decorated the top of the table with faux evergreen trees that have a slight sparkle to them and I nestled woodland elements throughout the fluffy white scarf. By far one of my favorite additions to the table is the remote controlled candles. Talk about fun and practical!

A Cozy Cabin Christmas

Having an open floor plan on our main floor means it’s important to tie all the design elements together. So to connect each room I’ve sprinkled a few small vignettes here and there to help the flow.

With the addition of the figurines, greenery, signs, and twinkle lights this time of year is full of festive anticipation. It’s always bittersweet to box up all the precious elements and memories in the next few weeks. In the meantime, I’ll be enjoying the glow of the Christmas tree with a cup of hot cocoa soaking up every moment.

With hope for you and your intentional home,
