A Wildflower Tween Bedroom

This summer we created a tween bedroom for our daughter. She has enjoyed a whimsical forest theme for the past few years and it was time to update her room to something a little older.

After a much needed furniture refresh (a beautiful 2nd hand bedroom suite), we were ready to switch out the decor in her room to be tween ready.

Our daughter will be 12 this fall and she wanted to update her decor, add a study space, and create room to lounge. A tween bedroom is on the way!

Slow Decorating

So in our style of slow decorating, a process that takes a few months, we’ve got all her mini spaces created. We started with the furniture and bedding. Over the course of about 6 months we slowly added decor elements to her room. This summer we did a big purge of old, broken, run down, toys and gave away many of her little girl items that weren’t keepsake worthy. Finally we gave the room a nice deep cleaning.

Tween Bedroom Arrangement

We pushed all the furniture flush to the walls, making an open space in the middle for hanging with friends or lounging with the dogs. Added in a great bean bag chair with a cozy throw and she was nearly set.

Study Space

Next up, she and I took a fun trip to IKEA in early June and picked out the Micke Desk. It’s a small, but ideal, study desk with a hutch. As she enters into the middle and high school years, creating a comfortable study space in her room is important.

A Tween Bedroom is all about the Cozies

My favorite things in the room by far are the bedding and other cozy elements. Our girl has always loved having a jammie and movie day. When she was little she used to ask if we could just stay home, watch movies, and snuggle. So one of my goals has always been to create a beautiful, comfortable, cozy room for her to lounge in. I used the bedding as the inspiration for the wall decor colors and let the white furniture ground the room.

I love how it turned out and she loves spending time in her updated space. And what’s makes me even happier, is how clean she is keeping her room! Win! Win!

With hope for you and your intentional home,
